Welcome Letter

Hello Mountain View Families,

Welcome back for the 21-22 school year! We are so excited to welcome students back in-person. I am Michelle Mowery and I am the incoming Principal for Mountain View School. I have spent the summer working closely with Mrs. Sarraino and the Administration Team to ensure a smooth transition. I am confident that this is going to be a fantastic school year!

I have spent the last 2 years as the Principal of Sahuaro Elementary in WESD and previous to that I was an administrator in another district for 7 years. Between teaching and leading, I have 20 years of experience in education and I am looking forward to continuing the important work that has been done here at Mountain View under Mrs. Sarraino’s leadership.

We recognize that for the last 16 months that everything has looked different so we want to make sure that we review important information and procedures with you to ensure a smooth start to the school year. In an effort to only send out important information pertinent to the next couple of weeks, you will find that certain topics and information will be coming out closer to the first day of school.

 Meet the Teacher:

Meet the Teacher will look similar to years past.  We will be hosting our in-person Meet the Teacher on Thursday, August 5th from 8:00am - 11:00am. To try to limit the number of people on campus at the same time, we are asking that students be accompanied by only one parent/guardian and follow the schedule below based on last names of students:

 8:00am - 9:00am:      A - H

9:00am - 10:00am:    I - M

10:00am - 11:00am:  N - Z

Please be sure to stop by the t-shirt tables.  Each student who attends Meet the Teacher will receive a free uniform shirt.  There will also be additional shirts available for purchase for both students and parents/guardians.  If you are unable to attend our Meet the Teacher event in-person, there will be a pre-recorded session that will be sent out by each homeroom teacher at the conclusion of Meet the Teacher on Thursday afternoon.

 Uniforms:

All students are required to wear the Mountain View School uniform shirt and dark bottoms.  Closed-toed shoes are recommended for both safety and so that students are able to participate in special area classes safely.

Arrival/Dismissal Information:

Our first bell rings at 7:25am and students are tardy/late at 7:30am.  Students may begin arriving on campus as early as 7:15am and they will go directly to their homeroom classrooms for breakfast  and attendance.

Buses / Car Pick-up Information:

All students who ride the bus will be required to have their ID and Z-pass.  This will start to be enforced the third week of school, which is Monday, August 23rd.   Masks are mandatory on the bus to and from school.  Please be sure that your student has an extra mask somewhere safe in their backpack.  If they lose their mask, remind them to get another mask from the office prior to the end of the day.

Students who arrive or leave by car are only permitted to do so in the car bay pick up location.  All students who are car pick up will receive a sign/number at Meet the Teacher to be used in car bay.  Please be sure to stop by this table at Meet the Teacher to get your number.  This number is required to be in your window in order to pick your child up at car bay.  If you do not have it, you will need to go to the office and get a new one.

Please do not drop your students off at the front office as the gates to the parking lot will be locked to ensure student safety.  If you have an appointment on campus with the front office, we will ensure that your appointment time is scheduled prior to 7:15am when the gates to the front office will be locked.

Coffee Chat with the Principal:

We will continue monthly coffee chats this year.  Since we are unable to welcome volunteers on campus in the first quarter, we will continue these chats virtually for now and resume to in-person as soon as it is safe to do so.  Please be on the lookout for more information regarding dates/times for these coffee chats.  This is an open agenda and time for me to answer any questions you may have as well as seek input from each of you.

 Covid-19 Mitigation Information:

The following information was also provided in the weekly updates/out-dials from district office:

Face masks are strongly encouraged for all individuals, especially those not vaccinated; however, they are not required while on school grounds.

There is one exception to face masks – students who ride the bus are required to wear a face mask while on the bus, per the federal mask mandate.

Physical distancing of three feet or more to the greatest extent possible will be practiced. The WESD has committed to reducing class size this year to help with this step.

Air scrubbers and enhanced ventilation will continue to be used in all student-occupied rooms

Students and staff will wash their hands frequently and use proper respiratory etiquette.

High touch point areas will be disinfected often.

Students and staff will be encouraged to stay home when they are sick.

Contact tracing, in combination with isolation and quarantine, will be used to limit   spread.

Visitors and volunteers will not be permitted beyond the front office for the first quarter.

Field trips will be suspended for the first quarter.

I look forward to getting to know each and every student and family at Mountain View.  Our teachers have been working hard this summer and attending professional development to increase their own knowledge and they are just as eager as I am to welcome everyone back.  I know it is going to be a fantastic year and I cannot wait to get started with each of you!!

See you soon,

Michelle Mowery
