Message from Administration

Hello Mountain View Families,

Welcome back for the 21-22 school year!! We are so excited to welcome you all back in person. I am Michelle Mowery and I am the incoming Principal for Mountain View Elementary School.

I have spent the last 2 years as the Principal of Sahuaro Elementary in WESD and previous to that I was an administrator in another district for 7 years. Between teaching and leading, I have 20 years of experience in education and I am looking forward to continuing the important work that has been done here at Mountain View under Mrs. Sarraino’s leadership.  I am excited for a fantastic school year for each and every one of us!!

Meet the Teacher:

Meet the Teacher will look similar to years past but you will notice we are going for an hour longer to ensure that we do not have too many people on campus at once.  We will be hosting our in-person Meet the Teacher on Thursday, August 5th from 8:00am - 11:00am. To try to limit the number of people on campus at the same time, we are asking that students be accompanied by only one parent/guardian and follow the schedule below based on last names of students:

8:00am - 9:00am:      A - H

9:00am - 10:00am:    I - M

10:00am - 11:00am:  N - Z

We are asking all teachers to create a virtual message to send out to families after Meet the Teacher on August 5th.  More info to come during our staff meeting on Monday, August 2nd.

Please encourage your families to stop by tables for the following:

  • Car Bay table for their Car Bay numbers if they are car pick up

  • T-shirt tables for their free uniform shirt (one per student)

  • Encourage them to purchase additional shirts if they would like.  They cost 8.00 plus tax.  Both the free shirts and those available for purchase will be located in the cafeteria

  • Parent Vue registration table - remind them that there are people on campus to support them in getting set up with parent vue (this table will be located in the E building)

  • Items that need to be available in the classroom include:

    • Please have something set up to capture how they get home after school

    • Student profile for updates

    • Health information form for updates

    • Grade Level syllabus - available for hand out and/or directions on where to locate

Getting Resources from the Library:

What do I do if I have extra furniture or if I need furniture?

Covid-19 Mitigation Information:

The following information was also provided in the weekly updates/out-dials from district office:

  • Face masks are strongly encouraged for all individuals, especially those not vaccinated; however, they are not required while on school grounds.

  •  There is one exception to face masks – students who ride the bus are required to wear a face mask while on the bus, per the federal mask mandate.

  •  Physical distancing of three feet or more to the greatest extent possible will be practiced. The WESD has committed to reducing class size this year to help with this step.

  • Air scrubbers and enhanced ventilation will continue to be used in all student-occupied rooms

  •  Students and staff will wash their hands frequently and use proper respiratory etiquette.

  •  High touch point areas will be disinfected often.

  •  Students and staff will be encouraged to stay home when they are sick.

  •  Contact tracing, in combination with isolation and quarantine, will be used to limit   spread.

  •  Visitors and volunteers will not be permitted beyond the front office for the first quarter.

  •   Field trips will be suspended for the first quarter.

Buses / Car Pick-up Information:

All students who ride the bus will be required to have their ID and Z-pass.  This will start to be enforced the third week of school, which is Monday, August 23rd.   Masks are mandatory on the bus to and from school.  Please be sure that your student has an extra mask somewhere safe in their backpack.  If they lose their mask, remind them to get another mask from the office prior to the end of the day.

Students who arrive or leave by car are only permitted to do so in the car bay pick up location.  All students who are car pick up will receive a sign/number at Meet the Teacher to be used in car bay.  Please be sure to stop by this table at Meet the Teacher to get your number.  This number is required to be in your window in order to pick your child up at car bay.  If you do not have it, you will need to go to the office and get a new one.

Please do not drop your students off at the front office as the gates to the parking lot will be locked to ensure student safety.  If you have an appointment on campus with the front office, we will ensure that your appointment time is scheduled prior to 7:15am when the gates to the front office will be locked.

I look forward to getting to know each and every student and family at Mountain View.  Our teachers have been working hard this summer and attending professional development to increase their own knowledge and they are just as eager as I am to welcome everyone back.  I know it is going to be a fantastic year and I cannot wait to get started with each of you!!

See you soon,

Michelle Mowery

Proud Principal, Mountain View School
